About
Hello, my name is Roger, transition and change coach at The Mindful Skipper. I’ve always been drawn to the places where change happens – the edges of things, the moments when life shifts, the quiet spaces where we stop and ask, “What next?”
For me, that pull toward change turned into a calling in 2018, when I trained as a Change and Transition Coach. I’d seen in my own life how challenging and unsettling transitions could be, but also how much possibility they hold if we give ourselves the time and space to explore them. I wanted to help others find clarity and confidence in those in-between times.
I went on to complete a Level 5 qualification in Performance and NLP Coaching, which gave me the tools to support people in deep and practical ways. But what really shapes my approach is something much simpler: the power of being outside, in nature, where we can breathe more easily and think more clearly.
Coaching Outdoors and by Water
The natural world has always been my grounding place. That’s why I offer coaching outdoors – walking, talking, pausing, and noticing what arises in the space around us. Being in nature opens doors that four walls can’t.
My love for the outdoors extends to the water. I’m an RYA Inland Waterways Helmsman and Skipper, and I spend as much time as I can on the UK’s canals and rivers. The waterways are wonderful teachers: they remind us to slow down, to notice the journey as much as the destination, and to trust the flow. Coaching beside or aboard the water often brings a sense of calm perspective that’s hard to find elsewhere.
Support, Empathy, Kindness
Because your well-being is my priority, I am experienced in holding safe spaces – both practically and emotionally – for reflection and growth. Support, empathy, and kindness are at the heart of how I work. I listen deeply, without judgment, and create a space where you feel safe to explore what’s really going on. Sometimes that means gently challenging your perspective, other times it’s simply holding space while you untangle your thoughts. My role isn’t to tell you what to do, but to walk alongside you with compassion and clarity, helping you find your own way forward.
Why I Do This Work
I know change can be overwhelming. I’ve felt it myself. But I also know it can be a chance to reconnect with who you really are, and to create a life that feels more aligned, more intentional, and more fulfilling.
That’s why I coach: to walk alongside you as you navigate your own transitions, to hold space for your questions, and to support you as you take steps – big or small – into what’s next.
